From the time I can remember, I have been a lover of art. All kinds of art, with a special love for painted works. Fascinated by the artist's ability to tell a story with color, line, texture, light & shadow, I found myself drawing inspiration, even as a child of 5 & 6, from the world around me. Both my Mother & my Aunt began to paint when I was still in grade school. I thought often how wonderful their talents were. They could take an ordinary scene, and make it a thing of beauty. Transform it onto canvas, capture the feeling within & make it theirs. It has spurred my imagination to open up and create or rather recreate what inspires me. In high school I began using charcoals and graphite, attempting to capture what I saw in the form of portraits and photographs, trying to give a sense of reality to the page. From there I began taking photographs & fell in love with what the lens could capture. Everything my eye was seeing, only more. Giving it a kind of emotional draw. Once through High School I decided to continue my art career, but believing the only way for art to be part of my life was to have it take on a commercial role, I studied Graphic Design at the NSCC Truro. It was during this process that I came to the realization, that first of all I detest deadlines, and secondly I crave creating what I am inspired by, moreso than what customers want me to create from their inspiration. It HAS had its uses, one of which was to help me appreciate and realize that what I am most passionate about is as much the process as it is the finished piece, making my thoughts, dreams & inspirations come to life. I have long been mesmerized by the works of artists like Pollock, Van Gogh, Da Vinci, Monet, Michelangelo, Royo, Frazetta, Dudinov & Amy Brown to name but a few. They inspire me. Through my own invention & experience, my desire is to create, move beyond my own limitations & share my art with others. *UPDATE: After a more than 4 year hiatus in which I opened and operated a small business that allowed me to display both my own art & that of fellow artists and artisans in my local community, I have after the closing of the space, chosen to finally return to my first passion of painting. After the death of one of my personal heroes and a mentor in so many ways, I chose to allow my first piece to be in dedication to his life & his legacy. I hope that it is the re-emergence of the artist within me that had all but given up the hope of finding inspiration and continuance. May We all live inspired lives before our time here is done. ~ Eve of Isis~
